This is a reprint of Ed Martell’s obituary:

Edward Ambrose Martell Jr. died of natural causes Wednesday, May 25, 1994 at his home in Boulder. He was 41.

He was born April 10, 1953, in Fort Belvoir, VA to Edward A. and Marian E. Marks Martell. He came to Boulder from Weston, MS with his family in 1962.

A 1971 graduate of Boulder High School, Mr. Martell was a gifted artist and later attended the Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver.

He was a cook for several Boulder area restaurants and enjoyed hiking in the foothills, bicycling and flower gardening.

Mr. Martell is survived by his parents of Boulder; one brother Robert Martell of Victoria, British Columbia; and one sister, Marian E. LeMay of Asbury Park, N.J. He was preceded in death by a sister Margaret Helen Martell.

Ed was a brilliant guy. He created cartoons all over his locker. He was a great artist.

Ed was very kind and thoughtful to me. I’m sorry that he passed too soon.
