Mike Kreith died in August of 2018.

After graduating from BHS he went to Wisconsin – Beloit College – then briefly to the University of Tulsa to determine that he didn’t want to be a lawyer, then to California and Ireland before returning to Boulder. His time in Ireland was remarkable. He got married (to Jo) and had a son (Daniel), and became a craftsman, selling his wares of traditional woven baskets in the Galway marketplace. His father Frank, having been born in Austria, marveled at having a grandson with a brogue. Eventually Mike and Jo split and he came back to Boulder.

Athletic, as well as thoughtful and observant, Mike was a natural teacher. In Breckenridge he taught blind skiers, and on the Boulder courts he was in demand as a coach and doubles partner, always a great guy to hit with. Inquisitive and entrepreneurial, his next venture was making and selling middle-eastern delicacies from a food cart downtown. He managed rental properties and was known as a rare good landlord. He enjoyed hiking and raptor watching. He was a good and kind friend.

Mike was quiet, but he always had something interesting to say. He had a clear mind and a strong heart. He is survived by the loving women in his family, Marion, Judy and Marcia, and missed by everyone who knew him.

Remembrances of Michael Kreith by BHS Classmates

Andy McClurg remembers:

Mike was special - he had dignity that few of us had attained back then.  He went to Baseline, as  I went to Southern Hills.  We were teammates on the tennis team.

John Sparkman shared:

Mike and I were in the same grades from elementary school on through high school.  We lost touch until connecting again until our 30’s.  Gave Mike and Joe a ride to the airport for his move to Ireland.  We connected once again doing business together.  My condolences to Marion and the rest of the family.  Michael is a kind dear soul.  Bless you and soar Michael.
