Rick Hockett

Rick Hockett

Richard Allen Hockett of Boulder died March 22, 2022 after a long battle with lung cancer.  He was 70, a lifelong resident of Boulder County and fourth generation Boulderite.  Richard was the son of Wesley Harlan Hockett and Marcia Virginia Vickery, born on December 22, 1951 at Boulder Community Hospital.  He graduated from Boulder High School and attended the University of Colorado, majoring in art and commercial design.  He was also a talented guitarist and songwriter who with his sister, Kathy Kramer, played at several nightclubs in the Boulder/Denver area, including the famous Tulagi’s on University Hill.

For over thirty years Rick was a foreman and maintenance supervisor for several apartment complexes and condominium units in Gunbarrel and Boulder.  He later worked at the University of Colorado in the Athletic Department at Folsom Field, where among other responsibilities he conquered the mighty “Zamboni” ice machine for the CU Ice Rink maintenance.  In addition, he was an entrepreneur and had his own business inspecting houses prior to closings.  For several years Rick indulged in his love of travel, visiting Hawaii, Mexico, England, and Scotland as well as several states in the U.S. with his family.  Her loved baseball and football and was a Broncos and Rockies fan.  Unfortunately, his fight against lung cancer slowed him down in the last five years, interfering with what he had hoped would be his “golden” retirement years.

Survivors include his son Aric Wesley Hockett of Longmont, Colorado, two grandchildren in Longmont — Quinn Marie Hockett (7) and Fionigan Allen Hockett (2), and his sister Kathy Hockett Kramer of Boulder.  In addition, he has several cousins, aunts, and uncles scattered in different states.  Rick was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Memorial and celebration of life services have yet to be scheduled.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
