Bosch, from the TV series says, "Everybody counts, or nobody counts." Greg deserves some words. He was known by very few classmates. I walked with him to junior high and high school most days. We rebuilt a CJ2 jeep in his garage over years even though we didn't know what we were doing. He earned a coveted motor newspaper route covering the foothills North of Boulder all the way to Lyons. In the fall, there was nothing better than to stand in the back of the Jeep, hold on to the roll bar, and throw papers through the fall colors. We would stop in Lyons for lemonade.
He died in 1972 I think in a single vehicle motor accident perhaps returning to Boulder from Lyons and perhaps in that same Jeep. He was my friend. It would have been nice to see what he would have done with more years.
Robert Rhode thank you for the Greg Bucher memory. I remember him! We both played trombone at Casey Jr High. I happened to meet his older sibling (sister & brother in law?) in the '80s and they were so happy to know one of his classmates remembered him.
Greg had an older brother. He is the one who would guide us with rebuilding the Jeep. He was a helicopter mechanic or pilot. Nice to hear that you remember Greg.
I remember Greg as I played trumpet in band at Casey and BHS. I didn't know him very well but seemed like a nice guy. I'm sorry to hear he had a short life. RIP, Greg.
Sonja and Dale, thank you for the comments about Greg. I had forgotten about his trombone playing. I now recall him carrying that big case to and from school. I also can remember you Dale, playing the trumpet.
